Roger Pike Roger Pike was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland and was co-founder of a family business during the 1960s. He received his early education at Holloway School in St. John’s and Coughlan United Church School in Harbour Grace. In 1973 Roger Pike received his pilot license and went on to establish a charter air service in Newfoundland in the late 1970s. In 1983 he acquired Labrador Airways Limited, dba Air Labrador, which was a small scheduled and charter air service operating DHC-2 Beavers, DHC-3 Otters and DCH-6 Twin Otters. The Company currently operates a fleet of Dash 8 passenger/cargo aircraft, Beech 1900 aircraft, DHC-6-300 Twin Otters and an Amphibian Caravan. Roger Pike is the principle owner of Labrador Airways Limited and continues to act as Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Pike Group of Companies one of the Province’s largest corporations employing over 700 people. In 1996 he was appointed as Honorary Colonel for the 103 Search and Rescue Unit in Gander, Newfoundland and reappointed in 2000 serving in that capacity for 6 years. In 1997, during his term as Honorary Colonel, 103 became a full Squadron receiving its Colors from His Royal Highness Prince Philip The Duke of Edinburgh. Mr. Pike served on numerous educational and health boards and chaired one of Newfoundland’s largest health care boards for 4 years during the early 1990s. He has continued to be involved in charitable aviation related activities in Newfoundland & Labrador through the donation and maintenance of an aircraft static exhibit in the Community of Harbour Grace, which is one of the earliest aerodromes in North America used by historic aviators and established in 1927. In 2005 as Project Coordinator he supported the successful reenactment of the historic 1919 crossing of the Atlantic with a Vickers Vimy aircraft originally piloted by Captain John Alcock and Lieutenant Arthur Whitten Brown. The aircrew for the reenactment was well-known aviator Steve Fossett and navigator Captain Mark Rebholz both of California. Air Labrador and the Pike Group of Companies continue to support local and military activities which recently included the restoration of the colors of the famous Royal Newfoundland Regiment for which he received the Queen’s 50 Jubilee Medal. |

Luben Boykov was born in 1960 in Sofia, Bulgaria. He graduated from the National High School for Fine Arts (1979) and from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia (1987, MFA), majoring in sculpture. In early 1990 Luben came to Canada and settled with his family in Newfoundland. Since 1991 he has operated and co-owned the Garden Studio and Foundry and Boreal Sculpture Park in Logy Bay, Newfoundland. He has exhibited nationally and internationally and has many sculptural commissions and awards to his credit. In the past couple of years Luben has been working on a number of large public sculptures; Meeting of Two Worlds at L'Anse aux Meadows, Newfoundland; Bishop Spencer Sculpture and Harbourside Park Sculpture in downtown, St. John's; Embrace for the St. Johns International Airport; Gate of Faith in Brookline, New Hampshire. Recently Luben's work has been exhibited in Salt Lake City, Utah; Orvieto, Italy; St. John's, Newfoundland; Sofia, Bulgaria and Washington, DC. In 2001 Luben was the recipient of the "Artist of the Year Award", presented by the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council. Luben lives with his wife Elena and two daughters in Flatrock, Newfoundland. |
